The Year Ahead

So Youth Assembly is concluded for another year! I don’t know about anyone else, but the weekend was something of a blur – a brilliant, fun, inspiring blur, but a blur all the same. I’m going to open by thanking all those who came, whether to participate in the Assembly or as a guest of any capacity. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Highlights for me include the time we spent in worship together, the insightful and honest contributions made during each of the business sessions, and all of the catching up with friends old and new. And, of course, the ceilidh!

A large part of our time in business was spent considering how we ensure our structures and guidelines best serve their purpose in enabling the mission of the URC – from small clarification through to big picture thinking, including ceasing to use the name FURY at an Assembly/Synod level. Once again, can I encourage you to be a part of our consultation?

Another key piece of business was the election and induction of the new FURY Advisory Board, who are:
Andrew Weston (FURY Moderator), Sandy Nunn (FURY Moderator Elect), Stephen Ball (FURY General Assembly and Mission Council Representative), Dan Morrell (Online Publications Coordinator), Hannah Jones (BYC Delegation Leader), Lisa Gordon (National Synod Youth Rep), Nathan Stott (f2 Editor), Nick Robinson (Pilots Representative) and Tom Hackett (Christian Aid Collective/Commitment for Life Intern). We’ll be supported by Karen Morrison (Head of Children’s and Youth Work Development), Phil Ray (CYDO Trainer) and Josh Thomas (Chaplain).

Please do be praying for us as we strive to serve God and the URC over the coming year, especially over the coming weeks as we all settle in to our roles. Sandy and I will be keeping you regularly updated on what we’ve been up to and some of our reflections through the blog so stay tuned!

It’s an enormous privilege to be embarking as FURY Moderator. I hope to walk closely with Jesus and be open to what God is saying throughout. I hope to be effective in representing and enabling the URC youth in the wider URC and beyond, along with FURY Advisory Board. And I hope that  this will be a really fun year – of travel, memories and friends – as we journey together.

So, here we go!
