The initial consultation into the proposed structures and guidelines for the United Reformed Church Youth presented in the URC Youth Handbook closed at midnight on Thursday 5th February. Thanks again to who all got in touch!
The proposals include:
- For the term ‘FURY’ to cease to be used at a Synod and Assembly level
- For the position of URC Youth Assembly in the wider URC structures to be clarified, and for its Standing Orders to be laid out
- For the current FURY Advisory Board to be restructured, and renamed as the URC Youth Executive
To find out more, read this one page summary Consultation Paper, or the full URC Youth Handbook. The Handbook was presented at URC Youth Assembly 2015, and an initial period of consultation was opened up prior to the February 2015 meeting of the Children’s and Youth Work Committee.
Change, especially within the church, is not always easy. The vision behind these proposals is to equip and enable the URC in engaging with as many young people as possible in the coming years. But it is more than that, too – it’s about ensuring that the powerful, passionate, prophetic voice of all those young people involved with the URC continues to be heard. So we seek after structures that enable and release, and ways of working which foster discipleship and community.
Many thanks to all those who prayerfully and thoughtfully responded by emailing with comment for further improvement of this significant piece of work. Both at Youth Assembly and since via email, we have been greatly blessed by all that we have heard, and will endeavour to ensure that all comments are taken on board as we progress.
We will endeavour to keep everybody up to date with the proposals as this significant piece of work progresses; if you wish to get in touch you can of course do so via the Contact Us page.
